Our Research Initiatives

R&D is the core of all activities we do at DragonFlora. We believe in collaboration and sharing, so we seek close tie-ups with various stakeholders like growers around the globe, various national and international institutes working on dragon fruit to contribute in development of the dragon fruit industry worldwide in general and in India in particular.

1. In-House Experiments

We have initiated various varietal selection programs at our selected farmer’s farms and germplasm collection at our own farms to improve the yield and quality of our existing stock of dragon fruit collected from various parts of the world. Our planting material is prepared from mature stock, and it starts yield right from first year at various locations. Till now we have identified two selections that are performing far better than the existing planting material available in the market, in terms of fruit size and yield.  Various experiments are going on to develop package of practices for dragon fruit under various growing conditions.

2. Study Tours

Study tours are a major tool we use to collect first-hand information from around the globe. We have traveled to Vietnam and Thailand, visiting reputed research institutions and large farms specializing in Dragon Fruit farming. Such study tours and collaborative research tours are part of our continuous study program.

3. Collaborative R & D

We’ve visited and had interactions with ‘SOFRI-Vietnam’ (Southern Fruit Research Institute), the pioneer institute worldwide where research on the development of new Dragon Fruit varieties is conducted; Ms. Dang Thuy Linh, Principal Scientist and Head at the institute is reputed for having created the highest yielding Dragon Fruit varieties in the world. Having learned from their experiences and research findings we are working actively following their guidelines and proven cultivation practices to boost Dragon Fruit productivity at our farms.
